ATLANTA – Georgia State men’s golfers Nathan Mallonee, Alex Herrmann and Max Herrmann have been named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday. Mallonee earned the award for the second-straight year while the Herrmann brothers earned the honor in their first year eligibility from the organization. The trio was among more than 200 Division I student-athletes to receive the honor.
Mallonee recently graduated after earning All-Sun Belt Second Team honors and leading the Panthers to a fourth-straight NCAA Regional appearance. He concluded his career playing the fourth-most rounds in program history, recording the third-most rounds of par or better and compiling a 73.42 career scoring average which is eighth-best in school history. He was a six-time President’s List honoree en route to graduating with a degree in finance.
Alex Herrmann earned All-Sun Belt First Team honors for a second-straight year while winning the Mobile Intercollegiate in February. The business administration major has earned President’s List honors all six semesters at Georgia State. He finished the 2016-17 season with a team-best 72.06 scoring average and season-low round of 66. He opened the year with a third-place finish at The Invitational at The Ocean Course, finishing the year with two top 10 finishes.
Max Herrmann has also earned President’s List honors in six-straight semesters and finished the 2016-17 season with a 74.00 scoring average. He earned top-12 finishes in three of the last four regular season events, including a tie for sixth at the Bandon Dunes Invitational and a tie for eighth at the 3M Augusta Invitational. He finished the year with 12 rounds of par or better, third-most on the team.
“What a great year for all three of these individuals,” Director of Golf Joe Inman said. “All three truly understand everything that it means to be a student-athlete on the course and in the classroom. Nathan proved that by earning his degree and has a successful future ahead of him. Alex and Max are right behind him with 4.0 GPAs in the classroom and great games on the course.”
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.
Former Panthers JJ Grey, Tyler Gruca, Alan Fowler, Derek Oakey, Kasper Jorgenson and D.J. Fiese each earned the award twice during their careers, while Tom Sherreard earned the award once.
