BANDON, Ore. – Led by junior Max Herrmann’s tie for sixth, Georgia State finished sixth at the eighth annual Bandon Dunes Championship on the Old Macdonald Course on Tuesday.
Herrmann made a pair of birdies and an 80-foot eagle putt from just off the green on Hole No. 15 to finish at 5-under par in a field that include five top 25 teams.
Georgia State shot a second-straight 293 to finish the 54-hole event 8-over par and ahead of multiple top 100 teams, including No. 23 Auburn.
“Overall, this was a good week for us,” head coach Joe Inman said. “Four of the teams we lost to are ranked in the top 25 in the latest GolfStat rankings which is where we strive to be. We have some work to do, but have two very good tournaments coming up and can put ourselves in prime position for postseason play if we take care of business.”
Junior Alex Herrmann finished tied for 26th following a final round 1-over 73 which left him at 3-over par for the tournament.
Senior Nathan Mallonee added a final round 1-over 73 to finish 6-over and tied for 42nd. Sophomores Nick Budd and Nathan Williams tied for 56th at 10-over par. Budd shot 77 on Tuesday, while Williams finished with a 79.
Freshman Josh Edgar, competing as an individual, shot a 6-over 78 and placed tied for 69th.
No. 8 Oregon cruised to a 21-stroke win finishing at 28-under par following a final round 276. No. 11 Texas Tech finished second at 7-under par, followed by Oregon State in third at 6-under par. No. 21 Colorado finished fourth at 4-under par, with No. 12 Texas A&M rounding out the top five at 5-over par, just three strokes ahead of the Panthers.
Texas Tech’s Hannes Ronneblad earned low medalist honors at 10-under par following a final round 70. Oregon teammates Wyndham Clark and Edwin Yi finished tied for second at 8-under par. Oregon’s Ryan Gronlund placed fourth at 7-under par, with Texas A&M’s Cameron Champ coming in fifth at 6-under par.
Georgia State will return to the course March 26-28 for the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C., at Bulls Bay Golf Club for an event that benefits the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation.
