O’AHU, Hawai’i – Georgia State shot a final round 310 to finish 14th at the 32nd annual Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Kane’ohe Klipper Golf Course on O’ahu Wednesday.
Redshirt-sophomore Emily Royer led the Panthers with a final round 1-over 73 to finish tied for 58th, making a pair of birdies in the final round.
Georgia State finished 64-over for the 54-hole event as the Panthers made the first trip to Hawai’i in program history.
“Overall, this was a very good trip for the team,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “Being able to bring the entire team has allowed for some great team bonding over the last few days. Although we would have liked the scores to be a little better, we know what we need to accomplish between now and the next tournament.”
Sophomore Jemima Gregson led the Panthers with a tie for 50th in the two-day event. Gregson shot a final round 3-over 75 to finish at 12-over.
Senior Jooeun Bae shot a final round 77 to finish tied for 67th at 17-over par. Junior Yasemin Sari shot 85 on Wednesday and finished tied for 87th at 27-over par. Freshman Harminprit Kaur rounded out the Panthers line-up with a 91 on Wednesday to finish 89th at 30-over par.
Three Panthers also competed as individuals this week. Senior Solene Le Coz shot a final round 1-over 73 to finish tied for 55th at 13-over par. Freshman Grace Choi shot a 5-over 77 in the final round to finish tied for 62nd at 16-over par. Junior Paula Zabarte rounded out the trio by tying for 82nd at 23-over par following a final round 86.
No. 16 Texas A&M earned at 15-stroke win in the two-day event, finishing at 5-under par. No. 19 Oklahoma State finished second at 10-over par, with Washington State coming in third at 11-over par. Idaho finished fourth at 13-over par, while No. 21 Texas finished fifth at 16-over par.
Texas A&M’s Maddie Szeryk, ranked No. 10 in the country, cruised to a four-stroke individual win, finishing at 9-under par. Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho, ranked eighth, finished in second place at 5-under par. Texas State’s Anne-Charlotte Mora, Washington State’s Alivia Brown and SMU’s Lindsey McCurdy tied for third at 4-under par.
Georgia State will return to home to host the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga., March 26-28.
