PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Led by sophomore Yasemin Sari’s final round 73, the Georgia State women’s golf team shot 310 on Tuesday (September 29th) to finish 11th at the Jacksonville Classic at Marsh Landing Country Club.
Sari recorded one birdie and two bogeys en route to her second 73 of the tournament to finish tied for 18th at 5-over par. She has finished in the top 25 in both tournaments this fall for the Panthers.
Sophomore Paula Zabarte added a final round 76 to finish the 54-hole event 14-over and tied for 47th.
“You look at the scoreboard and realize how tough conditions were today compared to yesterday,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “Only three teams broke 300 and the individual scoring average was 78.0. We obviously wanted to play a little better to finish, but I think we will take some things away from this round that we can use later in the season.”
Freshman Jemima Gregson shot a final round 6-over 78 to finish 18-over and tied for 57th, while junior Solene Le Coz, who shot the Panthers lowest round of the season on Monday afternoon, finished with an 83 on Tuesday to finish tied for 60th at 19-over.
Freshman Gloria Zeitler rounded out the line-up with a final round 84 to finish in 67th at 28-over.
Florida State earned a 24-stroke win by finishing at 11-under par following a final round 296. The Seminoles were the only team to finish under par. Rollins College finished second at 13-over, followed by North Florida in third at 16-over. Daytona State earned a fourth place finish at 20-over, followed by Stetson in fifth at 20-over.
Florida State’s Matilda Castren earned low medalist honors by finishing at 4-under par, one stroke ahead of teammate Kim Metraux who finished second at 3-under. A trio of golfers finished tied for third at 2-under, including Florida State’s Kayla Jones, Rollins College’s Annie Dulman and Daytona State’s Katie Veale.
Georgia State will return to the course in just over a week for the Wendy’s Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Oct. 5-6.
