BUIES CREEK, N.C. – A pair of Panthers finished among the top 30 to lead the Georgia State women’s golf team to a final round 317 and a 10th-place finish at the Fighting Camel Fall Classic at Keith Hills Country Club on Tuesday, October 20th, 2015).
Freshman Jemima Gregson, coming off a career-best finish earlier this month, shot a final round 8-over 80 to finish the 54-hole event at 18-over and tied for 20th.
Of the 45 team rounds played during the tournament, only two broke 300 during the three-day event.
“Although we are disappointed by the result, I am proud that the team kept fighting,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “It was a tough three days, but I think it will help better mentally prepare us down the line. We will be hungry to get back on the course later this week to see what we can do down in Florida.”
Sophomore Yasemin Sari shot the Panthers low round of the day, a 5-over 77, to finish tied for 27th at 19-over par. Sophomore Paula Zabarte added a 7-over 79 to tie for 43rd at 25-over.
Junior Solene Le Coz shot 81 on Tuesday to finish the event tied for 50th at 28-over par, while freshman Gloria Zeitler rounded out the line-up with a 13-over 85, finishing the event tied for 65th at 33-over.
Junior Jooeun Bae, competing as an individual, shot a final round 15-over 87 to finish 37-over and tied for 69th. Senior Julie Lied, also competing as individual, shot a 12-over 84 on Tuesday and tied for 73rd at 41-over par.
Host Campbell cruised to a 17-stroke win following a final round 7-over 295. The Fighting Camels finished at 38-over par, followed by Old Dominion in second at 55-over. Northern Arizona finished in third at 63-over, followed by Mercer in fourth at 66-over. Nova Southeastern rounded out the top five at 72-over par.
Mercer’s Mary Janiga shot a final round 2-under 70 to earn low medalist honors at 1-under for a three stroke win. Campbell’s Nadine White finished second at 2-over par, followed by teammate Annelie Sjoholm who was third at 8-over. Georgia Southern’s Ariana Macioce finished fourth at 9-over, with Campbell’s Tahnia Ravnjak and Northern Illinois’ Kelly Anderson tying for fifth at 10-over.
Georgia State will close out the fall season at the 38th annual FIU Pat Bradley Classic in Sarasota, Fla., Oct. 25-27, at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.
