ATLANTA G.A.– Coming off a second-straight NCAA Regional appearance, the Georgia State men’s golf team announced its fall 2015 and postseason schedule on Tuesday. The year is highlighted by the fifth annual AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic, a trip to Mexico and a return to The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island.
The Panthers return four starters from a squad that advanced to the postseason for a second-straight season last year. The squad had four top-3 finishes, including a second place result at The Invitational at The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, S.C., a tournament Georgia State opens the fall.
The season will get underway next week, Sept. 11-12 on the Ocean Course. The course most recently hosted the PGA Championship in 2012 and one of the most famous Ryder Cup events in 1991.
Georgia State will close the month Sept. 26-27 at the Sun Belt Preview at the Raven Golf Club in Miramar Beach, Fla. The Panthers will return to the same course April 18-20 for the Sun Belt Conference Championship with an automatic berth to NCAA Regional play at stake.
The Panthers will open October at the Cabo Del Sol Intercollegiate hosted by Santa Clara in Los Cabos, Mexico on the Ocean Course. It will be the Panthers first trip out of the country since participating in the TOPY Cup in Japan in 2005.
“I really like the schedule we have been able to put together,” head coach Joe Inman said. “Being able to take the team to a place as special as Los Cabos will be incredible for everyone involved. It should be a great fall as we look to get back to the postseason once again.”
The following weekend, the Panthers will host the fifth annual AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic Oct. 12-13, at Berkeley Hills Country Club in nearby Duluth. The 14-team field will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by the final round on Tuesday. Georgia State won the event for the first time in 2013, while UNC Greensboro won a rain-shortened event last year.
The Panthers will conclude the fall at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate on the East Course at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C., Oct. 24-25.
“We are excited to host an event at Berkeley Hills once again this fall,” Inman said. “Everyone at the course has been very supportive of us over the years and to have AutoTrader.com back as a sponsor is special as well.”
NCAA Regional play will once again take place at six national sites, May 16-18. The NCAA Championship is set for Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore., May 27-June 1, with the final day of stroke play and the match play portion of the event televised on The Golf Channel.
The remainder of the schedule is expected to be announced later this fall.
