NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – Iben Hvass shot an even-par 71, Ariana Macioce carded a 72 and the Georgia Southern women’s golf team moved up a spot to finish eighth at the All There August Challenge at Landa Park Golf Course Monday (February 15th, 2016).
Georgia Southern shot a 301, its lowest round of the tournament, which also tied for the fifth-lowest round of the day. The Eagles (+59) were 10 strokes behind Houston Baptist (+49) and five strokes ahead of Boise State (+64). Sam Houston State (+26) took first, while Long Beach State (+31) and Middle Tennessee tied for second.
Macioce (+7) tied for ninth, her second top-10 finish of the season, and Hvass (+13) tied for 26th. Yeji Shin and Annie Swords each shot a 79 today, and Ansley Bowman carded an 81.
The Story:
Macioce birdied two of her first four holes and was 2-under through her first 13. A double bogey on hole 2 dropped her to even par, and she sandwiched a birdie between two bogeys on her final three holes. Hvass birdied three of her first five holes and was 1-under through 11 holes. After a bogey on hole 2, she finished her round with six straight pars. Her four birdies were tied for the second most on the day.
Quotable from Head Coach Emily Kuhfeld:
“I am excited about the progress the team has made. The entire team had strong, competitive attitudes out there today and battled some tough conditions and pin placements. We had some solid performances, and Ari picked right back up where she left off in the fall with another top-10. Iben also turned in a great round for us today. This event was a confidence booster for the team, and we are looking forward to more great practices to keep building on this before we head down to Florida.”
