BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Steven Fisk and Archer Price each shot 71, and the Georgia Southern men’s golf team fired the third-lowest score of the day to move up another spot and finish fifth at the Shoal Creek Invitational Tuesday at Shoal Creek Country Club.
Fisk (-4) finished sixth, one stroke behind Cameron Young (-5) of Wake Forest in fifth, and five away from Demon Deacon Braden Thornberry (-9), who won medalist honors. Price (-1) finished in a three-way tie for 11th.
Wake Forest (-15) pulled away with a 6-under 282 team score and topped second-place Liberty (-2) by 13 strokes. North Florida (-1) took third, and Ole Miss (E) shot 5-under on its final two holes of the day to squeak past the Eagles (+1) into fourth. Only Wake Forest and North Florida shot lower than Georgia Southern’s round of 287.
Barron shot 72, Storey posted a 73 and Alakulppi shot a 77. Individuals Jacob Bayer shot a 77, and Crawford Simmons posted a 79. The Eagles tied Wake Forest for the tournament lead in pars with 171 as a team.
The story
Fisk shot 1-under on the front with birdies on the two par-3s and birdied the par-4 18th to shoot even on the back and finish under par for the day.
Price opened the day with consecutive birdies and played his first 11 holes clean while adding a birdie on hole 11.
Barron played a stretch of 10 holes 3-under during the round on his way to posting par, and Storey’s eagle on the par-4 ninth and birdie on 18 keyed his 73.
