GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Georgia Southern women’s golf team tied for eighth of 17 teams in the program’s second tournament of its inaugural season, the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday (September 29th) at Brook Valley Country Club.
Iben Hvass (+15) recorded the first top-20 finish in program history after shooting 79-73-79=231.
The Eagles (+82) tied Western Kentucky and were five strokes behind Richmond (+77) and Longwood, which tied for sixth. Host East Carolina (+27) won the tournament, and Old Dominion (+34) was second. Elon (+57) placed third, William & Mary (+65) took fourth and Gardner-Webb (+70) was fifth.
Annie Swords, Taylor Thompson and Ansley Bowman all shot an 84 today, and Yeji Shin finished with a 91.
The story
Hvass started her day with four straight pars and was even after a birdie on hole 9. Swords posted seven pars and a birdie for the day, while Thompson and Bowman each had eight pars and a birdie.

“We struggled executing our plans out there today. We did play the par 5s better, which was something we had discussed, but had a tough time with some of the other holes. Overall, I think we learned quite a bit from this event to take and improve on at the Wendy’s.”
