ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia women’s golf team will compete in the penultimate tournament of the regular season on Friday through Sunday, traveling to Ooltewah, Tenn., for the Chattanooga Classic.
The three-day tournament, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, will be held at The Honors Course and consist of 18 holes of competition on each day. The Chattanooga Classic will begin at 8:30 a.m. each day, and the Bulldogs will tee off from hole 1 in 10-minute intervals between 10:10 a.m. and 10:50 a.m., with individual Georgia golfer Grace Frei teeing off of hole 10 at 9:50 a.m.
“We are pumped to be back in competition after a couple of solid weeks of prep here in Athens,” head coach Erika Brennan said. “This last stretch of our season is important, and the team has elevated their intensity at practices and in qualifying. This will be a wonderful test of golf on a tough layout, and we are looking forward to the challenge.”
Golfers from 16 universities will compete at the Chattanooga Classic over the weekend. Four of those teams are ranked, including No. 10 North Carolina, No. 13 Virginia, No. 18 Vanderbilt, and No. 22 Duke. Other teams included in the field are Campbell, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Eastern Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Old Dominion, South Florida, Wisconsin, and Xavier.
Georgia returns to the course following a three-week break from competition. The Bulldogs most recently competed at the Darius Rucker Invitational on Hilton Head Island, S.C., carding an 895 over 54 holes to finish 12th ahead of three top-25 teams. Individually, Morgan Smith and Kate Song led the way for Georgia with 54-hole scores of 223 (+10) to tie for 33rdplace.
The Bulldogs will send five competitors to the Chattanooga Classic to compete in the team lineup, as well as one individual golfer. Chantal El Chaib will occupy the No. 1 spot in the lineup while Morgan Smith takes the second spot. Kate Song will tee off third for the Bulldogs while Celine Brovold Sanne is fourth in the lineup. Freshman Zixin “Candice” Lou occupies the fifth and final slot in the lineup and is set to compete in the Georgia lineup for the second time in her collegiate career. Frei will compete individually in Ooltewah.
This weekend marks Georgia’s first time competing in the Chattanooga Classic. The tournament is entering its sixth season, and The Honors Course is serving as the host course for the first time.
Georgia will be paired with Michigan and Xavier and will tee off from hole 1 every 10 minutes between 10:10 a.m. and 10:50 a.m. on Friday. Frei will tee off from hole 10 at 9:50 a.m. and is paired with golfers from South Florida and North Carolina. Live scoring will be available at https://gado.gs/cwf.
