AUGUSTA, G.A. – The No. 24 Georgia Regents University Augusta women’s golf team gained Cecilia Diez Moliner from Valladolid, Spain in the 2014 early signing period to play in the 2015-16 season, head coach Kory Thompson announced.
Born in Bilbao, Spain, the tenth largest city in the country, Moliner attends Colegio Leones in Leon, Spain in the Castile and Leon community in northwestern Spain and will graduate in 2015. Moliner has lettered in golf every year since 2007 and has attended Colegio Leones for 12 years.
“I am excited about the addition of Cecilia Moliner to our team next year,” said head coach Kory Thompson. “Her length off the tee and hard work ethic will be a great fit for our program. She is currently a member of the Spanish Golf Federation, so she will bring a lot of international golf experience to GRU Augusta.”
Coached by Jorge Garcia and Alvaro Salto, she reached the Open Championship of Castile and Leon from 2009-2014 and was named the Player of the Match in the 2014 Spain vs. Sweden national team match. In 2013, she took second at the U16 Women’s Golf Spanish Championship and carded third at the 2013 Lacoste Promises event.
