ATLANTA, Ga. — R.B. Clyburn, amateur from Cartersville came from three shots back to claim his elusive first Georgia PGA Win at the 5th playing of the West Pines Classic. The tournament was contested on July 8-9 and was supported by the City of Douglasville, at the City of Douglasville’s West Pines Golf Club.
Clyburn, finished with a two-day total of 10-under par 132 with rounds of 65-67 and defeated another amateur, a rising sophomore at Virginia Tech, Rahul Rajendran, of Alpharetta who finished one stroke back. This was Clyburn’s 5th Low Amateur title with the Georgia PGA, with one of those coming in the weather shortened event at West Pines in 2021.
Low Professional of the event was PGA of America Director of Instruction of Canongate 1 Golf Club, Todd Ormsby. Ormsby carded a 5-under Final Round to fall two shots back of Clyburn. He received the Low Professional check of $3,300 for his efforts. Luke James, PGA Director of Golf had the low round of the tournament with a 9-under 62 in Round 1, but finished in 4th place at 6-under after a tough Final Round. For his efforts he earned $2,200. The trio of host professionals, Chad Thomas, Assistant Golf Professional, Chris Cartwright, PGA Head Professional, and Matt Sanders, PGA Assistant Professional, finished T10 at 4-under par, T15 at 3-under par, and T30 at 1-over par, respectively.
