ATLANTA, GA—Chris Cartwright, PGA Professional from West Pines Golf Club, won the Georgia PGA Professional Championship. Cartwright will lead five Georgia Section PGA Professionals to compete in the 55th PGA Professional Championship in the spring of 2023.
Cartwright turned in a winning total of 3-under par 141 at the Barnsley Resort in Adairsville and won by two shots over Tim Weinhart, PGA Professional of Heritage Golf Links and the defending Champion, Anthony Cordes, PGA Professional of Cherokee Town & Country Club. With Weinhart’s T2 finish, he solidified his 11th Georgia PGA Player of the Year, earning the Billy Weir Trophy. PGA Professional Gregg Wolff is next with seven Player of the Years.
Finishing tied for fourth at Even Par were PGA Members and co-workers at Capital City Club, J.P. Griffin and Francisco Bide. For Cartwright’s efforts, he earned the first-place check of $2,800.
The Championship brings together a field of 312 contestants representing the PGA of America’s 41 nationwide Sections. The PGA Professional Championship, carrying a $550,000 total purse this year, is broadcast (all four rounds) by Golf Channel. Following 36 holes of play, the field will be trimmed to the low 90 scorers and ties, and following 54 holes of play, the field will be trimmed to the low 70 scorers and ties.
The low 20 scorers in 2023 will earn berths into the 105th PGA Championship in May, at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, NY.
In addition to the Walter Hagen Cup, the PGA Professional Championship winner also receives an exemption into the next 10 PGA Professional Championships and exemptions into six PGA TOUR events over a 12-month period.
Established in 1968, The PGA Professional Championship roster of champions includes the following premier TOUR professionals: Sam Snead, Bob Rosburg, Don Massengale, Ed Dougherty, Larry Gilbert, and Bruce Fleisher.

Presenting partners are the Golf Channel and the PGA Tour. The 41 Section Championships and the National Championship offer a combined purse of $1.5 million.
