ATLANTA, Ga. — PGA of America Member, Jin Chung, an Assistant Professional at Château Élan Golf Club claimed a narrow victory at the Assistants’ Championship at Oak Mountain Golf Club on Monday, August 12. This one day, 36-hole Championship was definitely a tale of two rounds as Chung shot 64, 8-under par in the first round to lead by three.
PGA Member Matt Sanders, Assistant Professional at West Pines Golf Club was 9 shots back going into Round 2. He erased that deficit as he was 9-under par with three holes to play, to tie Chung. Sanders ended up matching Chung’s first round 64 finishing bogey, par, par and one shot off the lead, as Chung carded an even par 72. This is Chung’s 3rd title at the Assistants’ Championship as he won previously in 2020 and 2022.
This Championship also serves as a qualifier for those that are eligible for the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship. This year’s qualifiers were Chung, Sanders, finishing 3rd was PGA Member Francisco Bide, Assistant Professional of Capital City Club, and finishing 4th was PGA Associate Taylor Fulbright, Assistant Professional at The Kingdom at Reynolds Lake Oconee.
