LACONIA, Ind. — The Georgia women’s golf team opened its 2014-15 season with a runner-up showing at the Cardinal Fall Kickoff at Chariot Run Club on Sunday, September 7th. The Bulldogs carded rounds of 314 and 304 to finish the one-day, 36-hole event at 618.
“We played much better in the second round,” head coach Josh Brewer said. “It’s been about a month since anyone has competed so we wanted to get some tournament play in before we head to our first full-field event next weekend. Now, we have a few things to work on and straighten out before next Sunday.”
Amira Alexander paced Georgia, tying for sixth after shooting 79-73=155. Harang Lee (78-79), Rocio Sanchez Lobato (80-77) and Isabella Skinner (77-80) all tied for 16th with scores of 157. Sammi Lee carded rounds of 85-76=160 to tie for 23rd, and Mary Ellen Shuman, who was competing as an individual, posted tallies of 80-85=165 to finish 34th.
Louisville won the team title at 585, while the Cardinals’ Laura Restrepo claimed medalist honors at 3-under 141.
The Bulldogs return to action next weekend when they compete in the College of Charleston’s Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Golf Club. The 54-hole event will be contested Sunday-Tuesday.
