BOWLING GREEN, Fla. – The Georgia College Golf squad started the 2017-18 season this week at the Griffin Invitational, hosted by Saint Leo University. The Bobcats took 12th at plus-32 on the par-72, 7,176-yard Streamsong Resort. Results are unofficial as of Tuesday evening, as there were some unresolved issues with scoring at the tournament.
The Bobcats got steadily better over the three rounds, firing 302, 301 and 298.
Freshman Daniel Davis (Columbus, Georgia) responded well to his first tournament in Blue and Green, showing the most consistent effort with rounds of 73, 76 and 72 for 34th place at five-over in the 90-golfer field.
Sophomore Drew Duffie (Evans, Georgia) posted the best round for the Bobcats over the three days, a 68 in today’s action. Duffie combined that with a 76 and 79 for seven-over in 41st place.
Third on the team and 52nd overall was Justin Connelly (McDonough, Georgia) finishing 10-over with rounds of 79, 73 and 74. 2016-17 All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) honoree Thomas Hodges (Monroe, Georgia) and Bobcat newcomer Austin Mancilla (Lawrenceville, Georgia) both finished 67th at 16-over. Hodges shot rounds of 74, 79 and 79, while Mancilla had rounds of 80, 73 and 79.
The University of West Florida ran away with the team title at 28 under par, topping the 15-team field and the second-place squad of Limestone College by 10 strokes. UWF’s Jacob Huizinga also won individual honors at 14-under.
The Bobcats are back in action Oct. 2-3, traveling to the University of North Georgia Fall Invitational.
