MUSCLE SHOALS, ALABAMA. – May 10, 2017, the Georgia College Golf squad posted their best round of the three Wednesday at the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional, carding a plus-13 295 to finish 16th among 20 of the toughest teams in the country. The field featured the top nine teams in the nation, as the Bobcats finished the three rounds at plus-32, topping No. 8 Lee University, No. 23 Coker College and No. 15 Rollins College.
Senior Harrison Stewart (Roswell, Georgia) was the model of consistency, posting three 73s over the three rounds for three-over par in 25th to lead the Bobcats. Stewart had three birdies today, and was even par on his final nine, which came on the front half of the course as the Bobcats started on No. 10.
Second on the team and 38th among the 108 golfers was senior Thomas Knight (Eastman, Georgia). Knight had the team’s lone sub-par round of the tournament yesterday, and shot a 74 today to finish six-over. Knight had two birdies on the front nine, including hole No. 8, one he birdied in the first round Monday.
Next on the squad was junior Thomas Hodges (Monroe, Georgia) taking 63rd carding rounds of 73 and 79 with a 74 today for 10-over on the par-72, 7,407-yard Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals. Hodges added four birdies today, giving him nine for the tournament.
Senior Conner Albright (Macon, Georgia) was 78th at plus-13, owning rounds of 79 and 76 with a 74 today. Rounding out the starters for the Bobcats was senior Harry Lambert (Suwanee, Georgia) improving by eight strokes over yesterday’s action, going 79-82-74.
No. 1 University of West Florida took the team title at 21-under, besting the field by 11 strokes. No. 5 Florida Southern College was second.
National No. 2 player John VanDerLaan of FSC took the title with a tournament-record 15-under. He beat No. 1 Chandler Blanchet of UWF by two strokes.
The Bobcats wrap up another successful season in 2016-17, capping it off with another NCAA Super Regional appearance after missing the at-large bids a season ago. Hodges brought in individual honors as an All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Second Team selection.
