SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Freshman David Li shot a final round 72 to lead the Georgia State men’s golf team to a 13th place finish on Sunday at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate at Mirabel Golf Club.
Li made a pair of birdies in the final round to finish the 54-hole event at even par and tied for 34th.
Georgia State shot a final round 298 to finish at 12-over par for the three-day tournament.
“We are definitely disappointed with the way we played today,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “We felt like a good round would have moved us a bunch of spots up the leaderboard and it would have. However, I am proud that we finished the last few holes well as our guys fought to the end.”
Senior James Kyles added a 5-over 75 to finish at 4-over par and tied for 53rd, while fellow senior Nick Budd shot 74 to finish at 9-over par and tied for 68th.
Junior Egill Gunnarsson and freshman Frederick Hedmark each shot 77 on Sunday to finish the week at 7-over par and tied for 63rd. Senior Severin Soller who was competing as an individual this week was forced to withdraw from the final round due to injury.
Georgia Tech shot a final round 7-under 273 to finish at 28-under par for the tournament and win the team title. Arizona State finished in second place at 26-under par, while LSU came in third at 23-under par. NC State placed fourth at 21-under par, while Auburn came in fifth at 19-under par.
Clemson’s Bryson Nimmer earned low medalist honors following a final round 65 to finish at 15-under par. Arizona State’s Chun An Yu finished in second-place at 13-under par. NC State teammates Stephen Franken and Benjamin Shipp, along Oregon’s Edwin Yi tied for third at 9-under par.
Georgia State will return to the course Oct. 1-2, for the Wolfpack Intercollegiate hosted by NC State in Raleigh, N.C.
