ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia golfers Maxwell Ford and Carter Loflin have earned weekly awards from the Southeastern Conference, according to an announcement Wednesday by the league office.
Ford has been chosen as the SEC Golfer of the Week, while Loflin has been selected as the SEC Freshman of the Week based on their efforts in the Ka‘anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in Hawaii.
A native of Peachtree Corners, Ga., Ford came in third in the tournament — the highest finish by an SEC golfer. He set his career low with a 7-under 64 in the final round, becoming the 21st player in school history to shoot 7-under (two have shot 9-under, eight have shot 8-under). Ford landed at 13-under 200 for the tournament as both his finish and total rank No. 2 on his career list. Ford improved his season average to 70.22.
Loflin, who is from Duluth, Ga., placed a career-best 10th in the event. All three of his rounds were in the 60s (3-under 68, 2-under 69, 3-under 68). He lowered his season average to 69.67.
The Bulldogs will return to action Jan. 30-Feb. 1 in the Southwestern Collegiate in California.
