Former Zip Sattler posts low round of the day 65, jumps 11 spots to T3
Shellman Bluff, Ga. – April 12, 2014 – When the final pairing of the
2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Classic tees off at Sapelo Hammock Sunday in Shellman Bluff, Georgia ironically it will be two players from the state of Florida trying to capture their first ever NGA Tour Pro Series win.
Florida Southern alum Brian Richey (Lakeland, Fla.) has held the lead after each of the first three rounds posting scores of 65, 67, and 69 for a three day 12 under par total. It’s only fitting the player he will be paired with Sunday would be his traveling mate Wesley Graham (Daytona Beach, Fla.), a former number one ranked junior player in the world who went on to star at Florida State. Graham posted the second best round of the day 66 Saturday, moving him to within two shots of the leader Richey and into sole possession of second. The pairing should make for a fun and friendly competition as the leaders are set to tee off at 9:30am EST.
While Graham put himself into great position with his round Saturday, Akron alum Blake Sattler (Philadelphia, Ohio) made the biggest move of the day matching Richey’s low round of the tournament 65 and vaulting himself into a tie for 3rd, just 3 strokes back of the leader. The former Zip shot 5 under par on the front, making more birdies than pars, and went on to finish the round off by shooting 1 under on the back.
Sattler will be in the next to last pairing at 9:20am with former Newberry star Daniel Stanley (Spartanburg, S.C.) who shot 68 on Saturday to maintain his position in 3rd. Former Kentucky star Andy Winings (Brownsburg, Ind.), also tied for 3rd, will be paired Sunday with Brunswick’s own Christopher Johnson who sits alone in 6th at 7 under par. Multi-time Pro Series winner and James Madison alum Jay Woodson (Richmond, Va.) and the NGA Tour 2012 Most Improved Award Winner Patrick Wilkes-Krier (Orlando, Fla.), who starred at Ball State, are tied for 7th at six under par.
Oklahoma State star Trent Whitekiller (Sallisaw, Okla.) was the second biggest mover of the day. The former Cowboy shot a 4 under par 67 to go to five under for the tournament and jumped seven spots into sole 9th.
Four other players are sitting at 4 under par and tied for 10th including Web.com Tour member and former University of Indianapolis star Justin Hueber (Fort Wayne, Ind.), two-time Georgia Tech All-American James White Jr. (Acworth, Ga.), 2012 NGA Tour co-Rookie of the Year and LSU star Ken Looper (Mandeville, La.), and Butler alum Kyle Thomas (Fishers, Ind.) who also made a big move Saturday with a 68 which moved him up from 16th.
The final round of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Classic will begin at 8am EST with your leaders Richey and Graham set to go off at 9:30am. All groupings will be as twosomes. As always admission is free and open to the public. To learn more about the NGATour or the National Golf Association please visit www.ngatour.com or call 800-992-8748.
