AWENDAW, S.C. – Led by sophomore Josh Edgar’s final round 69, Georgia State shot a 1-under 287 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 12th at The Hootie at Bulls Bay at Bulls Bay Golf Club.
Edgar made five birdies in the final round to finish the three-day event at 3-over par and tied for 35th.
The Panthers finished the event put on by the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation at 16-over par and tied with Eastern Kentucky.
“We had two pretty solid rounds and one tough round this week,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “The funny thing about golf is the difference between being really good and average is not that wide a margin. We had some really good moments this week and if we can clean some things up, we know we can compete with anyone.”
Junior Nathan Williams added a 1-under 71 in the final round to tie for 42nd at 4-over par. Senior Max Herrmann shot a 1-over 73 and tied for 55th at 7-over par.
Junior Severin Soller tied for 59th at 8-over par following a 74 on Tuesday, while junior Nick Budd rounded out the line-up in a tie for 64th at 10-over par, shooting a 76 in the final round.
Ole Miss shot a remarkable 19-under 269 on Tuesday to earn a one-stroke win over Kent State at 23-under par. The Golden Flashes finished in second-place at 22-under par with Kentucky coming in third at 20-under par. Iowa State finished fourth at 9-under par with Missouri rounding out the top five at 8-under par.
Braden Thornberry of Ole Miss shot a final round 66 to earn low medalist honors at 13-under par. Kentucky’s Lukas Euler finished in second-place at 11-under par while Kent State’s Ian Holt came in third at 10-under par. Wisconsin’s Jordan Hahn placed fourth at 9-under par while Kent State’s Bjarki Petursson rounded out the top five at 7-under par.
Georgia State will return to the course March 31-April 1 at the 3M Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Ga. It will mark the final regular season event before the Sun Belt Conference Championship later in the month in Destin, Fla.
