HAWKINSVILLE, G.A. —The East Section wins the 2015 Junior Sectional Challenge Match with a total of 58 points. The West Section, winners last year, finished with runner-up honors with 48.6. The 42nd annual competition took place at Southern Hills Golf Club, July 20-21, 2015.
The win marks the ninth victory for the East Section in the Junior Sectional Challenge Match, and first since 2013. The Section also claimed titles in 2009, 2000, 1991, 1990, 1989 and 1985. The East Section earned co-champion honors in 1993 along with the Southeast Section.
In the 18-hole division, Taylor Sweat IV of the Southeast Section won the boys 12-13 group at even-par 144 (77-67). In the boys 14-15 division, Brent Hamm of the Middle Section won the group at 2-over-par 146 (74-72). Andrew Duffie of the East Section topped the boys 16-18 group at 5-over-par 149 (75-74). In the girls 14-18 group, Carol Pyon of the Middle Section won at 10-under-par 134.
In the 9-hole division, Ballou Phillips of the East Section fired a 6-under-par 66 (34-32) to win the 11-and-under boys group. Emma Chen of the East Section (40-42) and Audrey Davis of the West Section (40-42) tied for division honors in the 11-and-under girls group at 10-over-par 82. In the girls 12-13 age division, two players tied at 1-over-par 73, including Mary Catherine McDaniel of the West Section (37-36) and Rillian West of the Northwest Section (35-38).
This marked the fourth time Southern Hills Golf Club has hosted the Junior Sectional Challenge Match. It first played host in 1998 when the Southeast Section won. A year later in 1999 the Northwest Section won in Hawkinsville. In 2010, the Southwest Section claimed the title at Southern Hills.
