Chad O’Dell, head PGA professional and Karen Paolozzi assistant PGA Professional from Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta took top honors in the Club Car Pro-Assistant Championship presented by Wilson, Bill Doane and Cutter & Buck, which was held at Athens Country Club in Athens.
The Druid Hills team combined for ten birdies and two eagles against one bogey to shoot 95 (13-under par) to win by a single shot over the team of PGA teaching professional, Danny Elkins and PGA apprentice professional Chris Nicol from the Georgia Golf Center in Milton. The highlight for the victorious duo was when O’Dell holed out a wedge shot for an eagle two on the par four 7th hole on the North course with a wedge shot from 124 yards.
This marks the first victory in any Georgia Section event for O’Dell and Paolozzi. Paolozzi is new to the Georgia Section after moving from Ohio this past winter. Paolozzi is just the third female PGA professional to qualify and will compete in the PGA Professional National Championship next month in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Defending champions, Stephen Keppler and Michael Berning from Marietta Country Club in Kennesaw fired 98 (10-under par) and finished in a tie for 5th place.
The Georgia PGA would like to thank Chris Sanders & Brian Milster from Club Car, Paul Tomasulo from Wilson Golf, Bill Doane, and Todd Lovett from Cutter & Buck, for all of their support of the championship. All participants were able to demo Wilson Golf products on a designated par three, and all received a golf shirt provided by Cutter & Buck, and a ball marker/bag tag from Bill Doane. Also, a special thank you to Athens Country Club and their PGA professional staff which includes, director of golf, Joe Devaney, and head professional Carey Byrd for all of their assistance in making the championship a success.
The Georgia PGA is one of the 41 Sections of the PGA of America. Its membership includes nearly 830 PGA professionals working at over 260 golf courses, clubs, and ranges throughout the state. Additionally, more than 20 Georgia PGA members compete on one of the PGA Tours. In keeping with the fundamental objectives laid down by its founders, one of the Georgia PGA’s primary goals is promoting the game of golf through clinics, junior and minority golf programs, consumer programs, and print, radio, and television media.
