RALEIGH, N.C. — Manuela Carbajo Ré fired a 74 in Saturday’s final round (May 9th, 2015) of the NCAA Raleigh Regional to complete the 54-hole tournament at 230 and tied for 55th place.
Carbajo Ré teed off from No. 10 and played the back side of N.C. State’s Lonnie Poole Golf Course first. She immediately bogeyed her first hole but birdied No. 11 to regain that stroke. Carbajo Ré slipped to 3-over on the day with bogeys at No. 15, No. 17 and No. 3 but birdied No. 8 and finished at 2-over.
“Seventy-four was probably as high as her round could have been today,” head coach Josh Brewer said. “She hit a lot of solid shots. She didn’t make putts after hitting some great iron shots. Still, it was a good round and a good score under very tough and windy conditions.”
Carbajo Ré was one of six golfers competing as individuals hoping to advance to the NCAA Championships on May 22-27 in Bradenton, F.L. Of the 96 golfers in the field – 90 as member of 18 teams and the six individuals – the top-three golfers who were not members of the six advancing teams will compete for the NCAA individual title in two weeks.
The Regional wraps up the 2015-16 season for the Bulldogs. Rocio Sanchez Lobato was the lone senior on the Georgia roster. Carbajo Ré headlines a list of eight returnees. The UGA roster also will be bolstered by three of the top-15 seniors in the class of 2015.
“The future is really bright,” Brewer said. “Manuela represented us well here. We have a very talented freshman class coming in and a number of individuals who contributed this season. The 2015-16 season should be a very exciting year and get Georgia Golf back on the map.”
