SUNSET, S.C. – The Augusta Jaguars dropped 16 strokes from round two and finished 21-over par to take eighth in the 14-team field at the first ever Clemson Invitational at The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C. Junior Teresa Caballer-Hernani tied for second overall in the 79-player field (April 3rd, 2016).
No. 8 Florida remained in the lead for all 54 holes and won the title at three under in Clemson’s home event on the par 72 course. No. 33 Furman finished second (-2) one stroke off the lead, No. 46 Michigan State placed third (E), No. 42 Vanderbilt fourth (+1), and No. 47 Clemson rounded out the top five teams (+17).
No. 32 Augusta climbed the leaderboard two spots in round three with their second-best outing of the three-day event. Caballer-Hernani had seven birdies for a five-under 67 in the final round to match her low round for the year and finish tied for second place to lead the team.
Next for the Jags was junior Eunice Yi who ended in a tie for 36th eight-over par with a 75 (+3) in round three and sophomore Sonya Knebel grabbed 43rd at 10 over after shooting a 71 (-1).
Juniors Josefine Nyqvist and Jessica Haigwood wrapped up Augusta, with Nyqivst taking 57th (+14) and Haigwood 71st (+19). Nyqvist shot a 78 (+6) in her last trip on the course and Haigwood an 82 (+10).
Augusta travels to the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational April 16-17, hosted by Ohio State, at the OSU Golf Club – Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
