EATONTON, Ga. — The No. 10-ranked Georgia men’s golf team moved into first place in the Linger Longer Invitational on Monday.
Playing Great Waters Golf Course’s par-72, 7,436-yard layout, the Bulldogs fired a 12-under 276 to move to 20-under 556 for the tournament. Georgia is tied after two rounds with Vanderbilt, and they are eight clear of Florida.
Freshman Maxwell Ford paced the Bulldogs in the second round with a 4-under 68. Ford made eagle on the par-5, 543-yard 18th and posted five birdies. Senior Trent Phillips signed for a 3-under 69 as he made five birdies, including the two finishing holes. Junior Ben van Wyk posted a 3-under 69 with a clean card showing three birdies, and junior Nicolas Cassidy recorded a 2-under 70 with two front-nine eagles and a birdie on the last hole. Freshman Buck Brumlow had the Bulldogs’ non-counting round of 1-under 71.
After opening the day tied for first, van Wyk slipped to second at 8-under 136, three shy of Jacob Bridgeman of Clemson. Ford moved to fifth at 6-under 138, followed by Phillips in eighth at 4-under 140, and Cassidy in 16th at 2-under 142. Brumlow landed at 10-over 154.
Playing as individuals, senior Will Kahlstorf fired a 1-under 71, followed by senior Eli Scott with a 2-over 74, junior Connor Creasy with a 3-over 75, and redshirt freshman JT Herman with a 5-over 77. Scott moved to 1-over 145, while Kahlstorf went to 5-over 149, Creasy to 7-over 151, and Herman to 16-over 160.
