BULLDOG BULLETIN
The SEC Championship: The 2024 SEC Championships mark the 23rd-straight year the event is held at Sea Island. The event will be played on the par-70 Seaside Course, totaling 7,055 yards with a 141 slope. The course was re-designed in 1929 by Tom Fazio.
Georgia has won the SEC Championship a league-best 29 times, most recently doing so in 2016. The Bulldogs have taken home the title eight times under head coach Chris Haack and six times in St Simons Island.
The field is comprised of the conference’s 14 teams: No. 9 Alabama, No. 11 Arkansas, No. 1 Auburn, No. 15 Florida, Kentucky, No. 35 LSU, No. 5 Ole Miss, No. 36 Mississippi State, No. 38 Missouri, South Carolina, No. 7 Tennessee, No. 22 Texas A&M and No. 3 Vanderbilt.
Van Wyk Named to Arnold Palmer Cup Team: Graduate van Wyk earned a spot on the International Team for the 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup, it was announced live on the Golf Channel on Tuesday, April 23.
This marks van Wyk’s first selection into the event, which will be played July 5-7 at Lahinch Golf Club in Lahinch, Ireland. He is the first Bulldog to participate in the Arnold Palmer Cup since Trent Philips helped lead Team USA to a win in 2021.
The Palmer Cup uses a Ryder Cup-style format and pits American and international collegiate golfers against each other in a team-style tournament. The United States leads the all-time series, 14-12-1.
Van Wyk leads the team in both the Scoreboard Powered by Clippd and PGA TOUR U individual rankings at No. 46 and No. 24 respectively. The George, South Africa native has consistently played at a high level in his final year of college golf, earning five top-10 finishes in nine tournaments this season. He was named the SEC Golfer of the Week on April 3 and ranks first among Bulldogs in both average score per round (70.21) and average score versus par (-1.04).
Last Time Out: Van Wyk capped off the regular season with a season-best second-place finish as Georgia ended The Calusa Cup in fifth on Tuesday, April 9 at the Calusa Pines Golf Club.
The Bulldogs earned the result after they finished 20-over-par, 884. Van Wyk ended the tournament at five-under, 211, as one of just two in the 42-person field to shoot at least par in all three rounds. The graduate student finished one stroke behind Wake Forest’s Scotty Kennon, the individual champion.
This marked the second consecutive top-five result for van Wyk after he previously tied for third at The Goodwin. Van Wyk did most of his work at The Calusa Cup on par 4s and par 5s, averaging the field’s best and second-best scores on those holes respectively.
Dawgs in the Polls: On the Scoreboard Powered by Clippd rankings that were refreshed on Tuesday, April 23, Georgia stands at No. 23 in the team rankings ahead of the SEC Championship. Van Wyk leads the team with a No. 46 ranking, fellow grad student Creasy comes in at No. 108 while junior Brumlow rounds out the Bulldogs in the top 125 at No. 118.
In the PGA TOUR University rankings, van Wyk moved up to a season-best of No. 24 after his finish at The Calusa Cup. Creasy moved to No. 36, while Manuel sits at No. 65.
Brumlow and Behold: Junior Brumlow earned his career-best result of t-4th at the Linger Longer Invitational on March 19, posting a score of eight-under-par, 208. Brumlow is one of three Bulldogs to have competed in all nine events this season, finishing in the top 20 in four.
Creasy Springs Forward: Creasy, a native of Abingdon, Va., has saved some of his best golf for his final collegiate semester. Including the team’s final event of the fall at the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic, the graduate student has six consecutive top-20 finishes. Creasy’s best event of the regular season came at the Puerto Rico Classic in February, where he finished tied for third place at 14-under, leading the team to its first tournament win of the year and earning him the first SEC Golfer of the Week recognition of his career.
