SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The University of Georgia men’s golf carded a 5-over-par 285 on Monday to finish in 14th place in the team standings following the fourth and final round of stroke play at the 2023 NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club. The top eight teams advanced to the match-play portion of the tournament.
The 30-team field featured 20 teams that are ranked in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll. North Carolina earned the top seed heading into match play with a 72-hole score of 6-under-par 1114, while Florida and Illinois tied for second at 2-under-par 1118. Pepperdine finished fourth at even-par 1120, while Florida State and Georgia Tech finished tied for fifth at 6-over-par 1126. Virginia finished seventh at 11-over-par 1131 and Arizona State defeated Stanford in a playoff for the eighth and final spot after shooting 12-over-par 1132. The Bulldogs concluded the event with a 72-hole score of 29-over-par 1149 (285-281-288-285). Florida’s Fred Biondi claimed individual medalist honors, earning the individual NCAA Champion title and an exemption into the 2024 Masters with a 72-hole score of 7-under-par 273.
Sophomore Maxwell Ford and freshman Carter Loflin paced the Bulldogs with rounds of 1-under-par 69. They were followed by senior Connor Creasy who carded a round of 3-over-par 73, while senior Ben van Wyk and junior Caleb Manuel rounded out the Bulldogs with rounds of 4-over-par 74.
Ford was the top Bulldogs in the field, finishing tied for 18th with a 72-hole total of 1-over-par 281. He was followed by van Wyk in 55th at 9-over-par 289 and Manuel tied for 63rd at 11-over-par 291. Creasy finished tied for 70th at 13-over-par 293.
Since the regional format was introduced in 1988-89, Georgia has advanced to the NCAA Championships 25 times, including 22 of 27 under head coach Chris Haack. Overall, this marked the Bulldogs’ 51 berth to the NCAA Championship.
