Buford’s SM Lee and Johns Creek’s Janet Mao won the Georgia PGA Junior Champions, played recently at Dunwoody Country Club.
Lee posted scores of 69 and 70 for a 5-under 139 total and a 3-stroke margin of victory over Connor Coffee of Peachtree City and Chandler Eaton of Alpharetta.
Mao matched par of 72 in both her rounds to win the girls division by five shots over Diane Lim of Norcross. Both Lee and Mao qualify for the PGA Junior Championship, which will be played July 29-Aug. 1 in College Station, Tex.
The boys division was a three-played shootout between Lee, Coffee and Eaton, who combined for 29 birdies in the 36-hole tournament.
Lee shot 69 the first day with three consecutive birdies beginning at the fifth hole to lead Coffee by one, with both players have five birdies on their scorecards. Eaton shot 72 the first round, carding four straight birdies beginning at the 15th, but also had a stretch on the front nine in which he was 4-over for four holes.
A second round 70, which included three birdies on the back nine, enabled Lee to preserve his lead. Coffee shot 72 in the second round and Eaton closed with a 70.
Daniel McKenzie of Atlanta was 4th at 149, with Jake Bayer of Lawrenceville 5th at 150 and Sebastian Darmo of Roswell 6th at 151.
Mao had nine birdies over two rounds to win the girls division, leading by three shots after the first round and increasing her lead the second day. Lim shot 72 to take 2nd at 149, with Megan Carter of Blackshear tying for 3rd at 150 with Newnan’s Annie Swords after a final round 73.
Swords shot back-to-back 75s and was tied for second with Amanda Doherty after the first round. Doherty placed 5th at 151, with Bailey Tardy of Norcross placing 6th at 152.
