Johns Creek-The reigning GSGA Senior Women’s Player of the Year and three-time GSGA Senior Women’s Champion, Brenda Pictor of Marietta, earned medalist honors with a 75. Pictor has qualified for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur in each of the last two years, advancing to the second round of match play in 2009.
She will be joined at the Championship by Karen Williams of Bean Station, Tenn. (77), and Margaret Shirley of Auburn, Ala., (78), who qualified for the Mid-Amateur in her first year of age-eligibility. Shirley grew up in Georgia and was recently the assistant golf coach at the University of Georgia before accepting a similar position at her alma mater, Auburn, last month.
Cynthia Navis of Point Clear, Ala., took first alternate with an 81, while Cheryl Grigg of Sea Island, Ga., (82) earned the second alternate spot following a one-hole playoff with Jin Son Antoskow of Phenix City, Ala.
Rivermont Golf and Country Club was set to 6,125 yards and a par of 72. A field of 11 players competed in the qualifying round.
Qualifiers advance to the 25th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, which will be held at Bayville Golf Club in Virginia Beach, Va., September 17-22, 2011, with a starting field of 132 players. Entries were open to female amateur golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by September 17, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 9.4. The U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
