AUBURN, Ala. — Senior Claes Borregaard will represent the Kennesaw State men’s golf team in the NCAA Division I Auburn Regional at AU Golf Club on May 12-14.
The tournament is scheduled for May 12-14. The format calls for 18 holes of stroke play to be played on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday weather permitting.
The event will take place at AU Golf Club in Auburn, Ala. The course will be played as a Par 72 at 7,607 yards. Auburn University is the host institution.
Borregaard is the second Owl to compete as an individual at the NCAA Championships and the first to do it twice. He competed at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional in 2024. Jeff Karlsson was the first to do it back in 2010.
BORREGAARD THIS SEASON
Borregaard had a team-best 70.73 scoring average this season and is the top-ranked golfer in Conference USA. He led the team with 18 rounds at par or better. The senior was KSU’s top finisher in eight events this season and ranks 96th in this week’s NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Ranking. He earned Conference USA Golfer of the Week honors five times. He was named Conference USA Player of the Year and was named First Team All-Conference on Friday.
Borregaard, a Smorum, Denmark native, achieved the following highlights this season:
- Tied for the individual title with rounds of 73-73-72 for a 5-over total of 218 on a Par 71 golf course. He won the Pinetree Intercollegiate with rounds of 74-69-70 for a 3-under par total score.
- Tied for third at the J.T. Poston Invitational for a 5-under par total of 205.
- Finished fourth at the Steelwood Collegiate.
- Came in second at the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate.
- Finished third at the CUSA Championship at 6-under par and was named to the CUSA All-Tournament Team.
NCAA REGIONAL FORMAT
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals not on those qualifying teams who will compete in the finals.
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams at each regional will advance to the finals. Playoffs and tiebreakers will be used, if necessary, to determine advancement to the finals. The games committee will do everything possible to complete 54 holes within the scheduled three-day period.
