CHAPEL HILL, Nc. – Claes Borregaard concluded play at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional at Foley Golf Club on Wednesday.
The junior carded a 2-over 72 in the final round to post a 7-over par total of 217. He finished tied for 54th. He carded 12 pars and two birdies during his final round at the UNC Finley Golf Course.
“Claes represented Kennesaw State and his team extremely well this week,” head coach Bryant Odom said. “We are all exceptionally proud of his season. After a tough start Monday morning, Claes got comfortable and went on an impressive run of ball-striking, hitting 27 consecutive greens in a row through the second and third rounds. Unfortunately, his wrist injury from the fall caught up with him on the last nine and he had a couple of bad holes coming in. To his credit he managed to fight through it and finish strong. The team and coaches are already looking forward to getting back on campus this fall.”
Borregaard had the lowest scoring average on the team this season. He led the team with 17 rounds at par or better. The junior was KSU’s top finisher in six events this season and ranked 200th in the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Ranking. His ranking is good for sixth in the ASUN this season. He opened the season at the Allstate Streamsong Invitational with rounds of 71-71-71 for a 6-under total of 213 on the par 73 course. He finished fourth at the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate at 10-under par 206 with rounds of 70-66-70. He tied for fifth at the ASUN Championship with rounds of 75-70-70 for a 1-under total of 215. His finish earned him a spot on the All-Tournament team. He collected ASUN Second Team All-Conference honors.
The Kennesaw State men’s golf team won three tournaments and had nine top 10 finishes during the 2023-2024 season.
KSU finished the regular season with a sixth-place finish at the 2024 ASUN Championship. The Owls will begin play in Conference USA in the fall of 2024.
