LAKELAND, Fla. – The Valdosta State golf team jumped from tenth place on Monday into a ninth place tie with Columbus State following the final round of the Matlock Collegiate Classic on Tuesday (February 9th, 2015) at the Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland, Fla.
Saint Leo claimed victory by a healthy margin following a 5-over 869 score, and West Florida climbed into a tie with Barry for second place after 289 strokes on the final day allowed the Argonauts to conclude with a 13-over 877 score.
The Blazers matched their first round score of 14-over 302 on Tuesday after 18 holes on the 72-par course and were led by Chris Rogers and Matt Anderson, who each shot 1-over 73 for their best rounds of the event. Rogers closed out at 7-over 223 for a tie at 26th place among the field of 75, and Anderson finished at 11-over 227 for a 35th place tie.
Just below Anderson, Davis Roche posted a 3-over 76 to complete the event tied for 29th with a score of 12-over 228. Jake Harpe slipped on day two with a score of 8-over 80 to finish tied for 50th, and Eli Hendricks rounded out VSU’s individual scores with a 21-over 237 after posting a 8-over in the third and final round.
Valdosta State’s next event is scheduled for February 29th and March 1st, where the Blazers will compete at the 2016 Super Regional Preview in Howey-in-the-Hills, F.L.
