AUGUSTA, Ga. – More than 25 participants from the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Augusta (BGCGA) took part in the third annual Bank of America Play It Forward clinic at First Tee – Augusta on Monday, leading into this week’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA).
Six amateur players and other prominent women from the world of golf including World Golf Hall of Famer Annika Sörenstam and Former PGA President Suzy Whaley provided the young golfers with world-class instruction on pitching, chipping, and putting while weaving in personal insights about discipline, determination, confidence, and resiliency.
This year’s clinic also featured a Stroke of Teamwork station where participants dipped their golf balls in paint and putted across a 36-square foot canvas to create a unique piece of artwork. The final piece was gifted to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Augusta.
“Being part of Play It Forward is my way of giving back by sharing my story and introducing golf to the next generation,” said Sörenstam. “The event is designed to teach the fundamentals of golf, but it is also about making great memories all while learning key life skills like patience and integrity.”
The Bank of America Play it Forward platform expands access to sport while highlighting the achievements of inspiring role models and providing valuable life lessons. Through its partnership with ANWA, Bank of America spotlights women leaders on and off the course while inspiring the next generation of youngsters to play and learn, not only the game of golf but also important life skills.
“As long-time supporters of BGCGA and First Tee Augusta, we are honored to continue our commitment by providing youth an exposure to golf with trailblazing women golfers,” said Marissa Smith, market executive, Bank of America Augusta-Aiken.
