RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The Augusta University women’s golf teams returns to the Lady Puerto Rico Classic for the fourth consecutive year as they open the 2017 spring season Feb. 12-14 at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
Hosted by Purdue, the Lady Puerto Rico Classic features 15 teams who will compete across three days. The tournament starts with a shotgun start on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 8:00 a.m. Monday features the same format and Tuesday wraps the contest with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
“We are looking forward to kicking off a great spring in one of the best tournaments in women’s college golf,” head coach Caroline Hegg said. “We have an interesting lineup with three seniors and two freshmen and we have been able to prepare very well with the great weather we’ve had recently. The team should be ready to make a statement.”
Last year the Jags finished seventh at the LPRC at 27-over par.

The 2017 edition of the LPRCwill be the first event for the Jags since Oct. 25. Augusta finished top five in four events and top 10 for the Fall 2016 portion of the season. The Jaguars recorded a 75.71 team scoring average in five fall tournaments. Led by senior trio Jessica Haigwood, Josefine Nyqvist, and Eunice Yi, Augusta’s best finish was second place at the Greenville Regional Preview Oct. 18 at Brook Valley Country Club.
All three seniors, sophomore Cecilia Diez-Moliner, and freshman Linda Lundqvist all recorded 14 rounds of play. Nyqvist led with a 74.86 scoring average, Yi had a 75.14 average, Lundqvist 75.71, Haigwood 76.00, and Diez-Moliner 76.07.
Sophomore Maggie Ashmore logged five rounds and junior Lexi Bollant three.
