WEST POINT, Miss. – The Augusta University women’s golf team improved in the final round of the Magnolia Invitational at Old Waverly Golf Club on Tuesday and fired their best round of the tournament 293 (+5) to finish eighth overall at 32-over par.
Hosted by Mississippi State and Ole Miss, the Magnolia Invitational started Sunday morning on the par-72, 6,320-yard course and continued on tee times Monday and a shotgun start on Tuesday. Ole Miss led the 10-team field after each day and won the tournament 10-under par. Memphis also finished under par to take second place (-3), Tennessee was third (+8), Mississippi State and Auburn shared fourth (+13), LSU sixth (+18), Southern Mississippi seventh (+26), Augusta eighth (+32), Kansas State ninth (+34), and Troy 10th (+56).
Julia Johnson of Ole Miss and Abby Herrmann of Memphis each shot 7-under par for the 54-hole event. Johnson edged Herrman on the second playoff hole to take the title.
Jaguar senior Maggie Ashmore led her squad and tied for 12th overall by matching her low score of the week with an even-par 72 on Tuesday. Ashmore finished 3-under par and had seven birdies and an eagle for the event.
Junior Cecilia Diez-Moliner and sophomore Linda Lundqvist shared a tie for 27th overall (+8), with each shooting their lowest score in day three. Freshmen Teresa Diez-Moliner and Nicole Page rounded out Augusta. T. Diez-Moliner tied for 41st (+13) and Page took 62nd after posting her low round.
Augusta plays in the Ladies Fall Intercollegiate, hosted by Louisville, at Atlanta Athletic Club in Atlanta, Ga.
