GREENSBORO, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars fired their second round at five-under par to finish three shots off the lead and tie for second with No. 2 Georgia at the Linger Longer Invitational on Tuesday afternoon (March 22nd, 2016) at Great Waters Golf Course. Augusta has finished in the top 10 in all seven tournaments so far this season and has finished third or higher five times.
Next up, the Jaguars host the 38th annual 3M Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club Saturday–Sunday, April 2-3 in Augusta, Ga.
Six teams were ranked in the top 50 in the 2016 LLI and No. 12 Alabama held on for the win at nine-under par, while No. 39 Augusta and No. 2 Georgia shared second seven below.
No. 21 Virginia grabbed fourth (-3) and Kennesaw State ended two over to slide down one spot and round out the top five.
Ranked No. 56 in the nation individually, Jags junior Robin Petersson finished third overall to guide Augusta to second place. Petersson ended seven shots under par and two shots behind No. 9 Lee McCoy from Georgia who won the event. Petersson fired his second 69 (-3) of the tourney in round three to grab his fourth top-five finish of the season.
Sophomore Broc Everett was steady through round three and shot an even-par 72 to tie for eighth after a 68 (-4) in round one set him up for a strong finish.
Senior Maverick Antcliff turned in his best round of the tourney with a 71 (-1) to tie for 16th, and juniors Jake Marriott and Emmanuel Kountakis also scored their best round of the three-day event. Marriott fired a 71 as well to tie for 27th and Kountakis shaved a stroke with a 73 (+1) to finish in 33rd.
The Jaguars posted 21 birdies in round three to improve one spot and grab second.
