GREENSBORO, Ga. – The Augusta University men’s golf team placed seventh in the Linger Longer Invitational at Great Waters Reynolds Lake Oconee. The Jaguars shot a 3-over-par 291 on Tuesday in their ninth event of the season.
Augusta was in seventh place and was paired with Cincinnati and Chattanooga to begin the final round on Tuesday and held off Kennesaw State to remain seventh.
Freshman Alex Shead stayed at par or under for all 54 holes and fired his best score of 70 (-2) to lead the Jags in a tie for 10th at 3-under-par – his the third best finish of his career. Senior Broc Everett tied for 13th (-2) with a round-three 71 (-1) after posting a 69 (-3) in round two. Freshman Olof Gunnarsson and sophomore McCullough Pickens slid to 32nd (+3) and 53rd (+9) and freshman Laken Hinton rounded out AU in a tie for 72nd (+14).
No. 8 Alabama held off Georgia for the top spot in the 16-team field and finished two shots better than the Bulldogs at 24-under-par. Penn State took third (-8), Ohio State fourth (-3), and Virginia placed fifth (+1) for the top scoring teams.
The Jaguars host the 40th edition of the 3M Augusta Invitational on March 31-April 1 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. Augusta welcomes 15 division-1 teams to the two-day event on the eve of The Masters.
