AIKEN, S.C. – Senior Maverick Antcliff fired his low round of the season with a 67 (-3) to finish one stroke off the overall lead and pace Augusta to third place after round three at the Cleveland Golf/Palmetto Intercollegiate. USC Aiken hosted the two-day event at historic Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.
Antcliff chipped in his seventh birdie on the day at 18 to get to six-under par and one stroke off the overall individual lead, but South Carolina’s Matthew NeSmith hung on for the title at seven below.
The No. 35 nationally ranked Jaguars finished 17 shots over par and held on to third place in the 18-team field. No. 22 South Carolina led the field by 14 strokes heading into the last 18 holes and the Gamecocks won the title 19 under.
No. 26 Virginia (-1) took second, No. 35 Augusta (+17) third, and No. 45 East Carolina and Chattanooga tied for fourth to conclude the top-five teams. Of the 18 teams, six were ranked in the top 50 with USCA ranked No. 9 in Division II.
The Jags began the final round 12-shots over par and turned in a 285 (+5) as a team. Behind Antcliff in second place was senior Robin Petersson and junior Jake Marriott who each tied for 16th overall. Petersson shot his best round of the event with a 70 (E) and Marriott fired a 74 (+4).
Sophomore Broc Everett notched 62nd with a 74 in round three and junior Emmanuel Kountakis also shot a final-round 74 for tie for 78th.
