HOLLYWOOD, S.C. – The Augusta University men’s golf team ended the fall season on Saturday at The Battle of Stono Ferry and placed 10th after 54 holes of action.
The tournament was a rescheduled event at The Links at Stono Ferry, after the hurricanes forced a cancellation of the Ocean Course Invitational in early September.
Teams began play on Friday in a 36-hole shotgun format and played round three with tee times on Saturday. Augusta was tied for sixth after two rounds and finished 13-over par to take 10th out of 11 teams.
Campbell and the College of Charleston had a 14-stroke lead over the field to start the final day and Campbell held on to win at 25-under par. Charleston came in second (-22), Maryland third (-6), McNeese State fourth (-5), and High Point fifth (-3) for the top scoring teams.
The Jaguar’s starters were freshman Alex Shead, senior Broc Everett, freshman Laken Hinton, sophomore Gustav Andersson, and freshman Olof Gunnarsson. Augusta rookie Constantin Unger competed as an individual.
Everett was tied for 11th to start round three after shooting 71 (-1) and 72 (-2). He shot the low round for AU at 2-under par and took a tie for 10th (-5) and freshman Olof Gunnarsson ended 1-over par to tie for 23rd
Shead shot his career-low round with a 67 (-5) in round one, but he followed with a 79 (+7) and 80 (+8) to place 53rd, while Hinton tied for 55th (+11), and Andersson 63rd (+18).
Unger finished 3-over par in 32nd place to take third out of 13 individuals.
Augusta returns Feb. 27-28 at the Southwestern Invitational, hosted by Pepperdine, at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif.
