MEDINAH, Ill. – The Augusta University women’s golf team finished in eighth place on Tuesday afternoon at the Illini Invitational at Medinah after shooting 1-under-par for 54 holes of play.
Hosted by Illinois at Medinah Country Club on the par-72, 6,159-yard course, the tournament featured Augusta, No. 36 East Carolina, No. 24 Illinois, Indiana, Kansas State, Kennesaw State, No. 14 Kent State, No. 20 Miami (FL), Northern Illinois, No. 32 Purdue, No. 19 San Jose State, No. 26 SMU, No. 49 Texas Tech, No. 35 Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin.
Purdue won the event 27 shots below par, while Kent State took second, Illinois third, Miami fourth, and San Jose State and Texas Tech tied for fifth. Kent State’s Karoline Stormo and Michaela Finn and Texas Tech’s Sofia Garcia all tied for first individually at 9-under-par.
AU senior Maggie Ashmore sat towards the top of the leaderboard for the first two rounds after firing a 68 and 69 and she finished tied for 13th (-3) to pace the team. Jags senior Cecilia Diez-Moliner shot her lowest score in the final round with a 67 (-5) to place 27th overall and junior Charlotte Alran tied for 34th (+2) after shooting her second 73 of the event.
Junior Linda Lundqvist tied for 40th and sophomore Teresa Diez-Moliner tied for 57th overall, with Lundqvist shooting a tourney-best 71 (-1) in round two and T. Diez-Moliner back-to-back rounds of 74 (+2) in the final two rounds.
Augusta heads to fabulous Las Vegas Oct. 21-23 for the 2018 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Boulder City, Nev.
