AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women’s golf team finished in third place at the 2019 Valspar Augusta Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Forest Hills Golf Club. The Jaguars ended their home event 3-over-par, with juniors Charlotte Alran and Linda Lundqvist leading the team in a tie for fifth place individually.
Hosted by the Jaguars, the Valspar Augusta Invitational featured Augusta, Central Arkansas, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Daytona State, East Tennessee State, Memphis, Princeton, Purdue, South Florida, Texas Tech, and Toledo. No. 41 Texas Tech carried its big round-two lead into Sunday and won the tournament at 4-under-ar. No. 33 Purdue stayed second (E), Augusta took third (+3), Charlotte fourth (+5), and Memphis fifth (+10) for the top spots.
Ranked. No. 27 in the nation, Texas Tech’s Sofia Garcia won the event 7-under-par.
Alran and Lundqvist each tied for fifth (E) to guide the Jaguars, with each shooting a 71 (-1) for their low round of the weekend. Senor Maggie Ashmore tied for ninth at 1-over-par, while senior Cecilia Diez-Moliner tied for 14th and sophomore Teresa Diez-Moliner tied for 47th.
AU had three individuals competing as well at Forest Hills. Senior Sarah Tychsen tied for 23rd, sophomore Nicole Page tied for 31st, and freshman Natalia Yoko tied for 56th.
The Jags play at SDSU’s March Mayhem March 25-27 in Rancho Sante Fe, Calif., at The Farms Golf Club. The event is hosted by San Diego State University.
