Australian wins 11th PGA TOUR event, moves from No. 58 to No. 14 in FedExCup standings
Atlanta, Ga. – In a week in which Adam Scott moved to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, the newly married Australian put an exclamation point on his position atop the rankings with a playoff victory against Jason Dufner at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. Scott moved from No. 58 to No. 14 in the 2013-2014 FedExCup standings as he tries to return to East Lake Golf Club and the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola in Atlanta on Sept. 10-14.
Scott, who began the day two strokes back, emerged the victor following a 4-under 66. The 2013 Masters champion outlasted 2013 PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner with a birdie-3 on the third extra hole (No. 18).
The win was Scott’s 11th victory and his first on the PGA TOUR since capturing The Barclays in 2013. The victory made him the first player to win the Texas Grand Slam, having won the 2007 Shell Houston Open, 2008 HP Byron Nelson Championship, 2010 Valero Texas Open and 2014 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.
He is the fifth Australian to win on TOUR this season, joining Jason Day, John Senden, Steven Bowditch and Matt Jones. The other international winners are Seung-yul Noh and Martin Kaymer.
Scott has played in the TOUR Championship eight times in his career including his victory in 2006, the last year before the FedExCup began. He finished last season ranked No. 4 in the standings, a career best.
“It seems like there are two unofficial requirements for players to win this year on the PGA TOUR – they either have to be from the University of Georgia or from Australia,” said Executive Director Tom Clark. “Kidding aside, with recent winners like Martin Kaymer, Adam Scott and Bubba Watson, the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola will enjoy another exciting field.”
Tickets can be purchased at www.PGATOUR.com/tourchampionship. Fans are reminded that each year, youth 18 and younger are admitted free when accompanied by a ticketed adult.
