STATESBORO, GA — The 2017 Schenkel Invitational Collegiate Golf Tournament will be played March 17 – 19 at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro. The customary strong field is highlighted by the #1 and #2 teams in the country, Vanderbilt and Florida respectively (Golfstat rankings, 2/17/17). Half of the field of 14 teams are ranked in the top 50 nationally. Joining the top two teams in the field are Georgia Southern, North Carolina State, Kentucky, Iowa, Notre Dame, Kansas State, University of Alabama Birmingham, College of Charleston, University of North Florida, East Tennessee State, Jacksonville University, and Lipscomb. There will be a practice round on Thursday and 18 holes of competition on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The popular Schenkel Youth Golf Clinic will again be held in conjunction with the tournament. A golf clinic and contests will be conducted for local boys and girls of all ages on Wednesday, March 15 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Forest Heights practice area. The activities will be carried out by Forest Heights’ golf professionals, Georgia Southern coaches and players, and by coaches and players of other teams participating in the Schenkel.
This year’s media day proceedings will coincide with the youth clinic. Georgia Southern coaches and players will be available to the media shortly before, during, and shortly after the youth clinic activities. Clinic participants and visiting coaches and players may be available for interviews, also. Media members who would like to play the Forest Heights course are invited to play in the Schenkel Patron’s Blitz commencing at 12:30 that afternoon before the clinic.
