Some of the fans attending this year’s TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola will be tailgating on site, college football-style, while watching the top players in the world compete for the FedExCup at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta from Sept. 19-22.
Thanks to a partnership with the Chick-fil-A Bowl, a unique fan experience will debut in the form of the “Chick-fil-A Bowl College Corner” – a new elaborate hospitality area located between the 10th green and the 11th tee at the East Lake Golf Club. Fans who purchase tickets for this special tailgating experience will enjoy all the trappings of a great southern college football tailgate while they watch the players make their way around the course.
Amenities will include a 300-person hospitality tent with covered open-air seating, all-inclusive food and beverage, TVs, a special area featuring tailgate-style games and activities available only to fans inside the Chick-fil-A Bowl College Corner. Fans will also get to rub elbows with former college football coaches, players and golfers who are likely to make appearances.
“Can’t decide between a weekend of golf or college football? … Do BOTH!” said Gary Stokan, Chick-fil-A Bowl president and CEO. “We want fans to have a chance to celebrate their passion for college football and experience the TOUR Championship in the same way they spend a college football Saturday by supporting their alma maters. It’s the best of both worlds and the beginning of a passionate new tradition of integrating golf and college football.”
To further enhance the experience, blending golf and college football, players and fans alike will be encouraged to wear their alma mater’s college colors and team gear on Friday, Sept. 20 while cheering on their favorite golfers and their respective universities.
“I’m a huge college football fan myself and I’ll be the first to commit to wear the black and gold of Vanderbilt on Friday to show support for my Commodores,” said Brandt Snedeker, winner of last year’s TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola and the 2012 FedExCup. “I hope there will be some other Vanderbilt fans out there supporting me. Anchor down!”
“This is a great partnership between two of Atlanta’s biggest sporting events,” said Tom Clark, Executive Director of the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola. “So many of our players and fans are also fans of college football and follow their respective alma maters. The Chick-fil-A Bowl College Corner will highlight the passion for both golf and college football in this community, with the ultimate goal of raising more money for charity and the East Lake Foundation.”
In keeping with its mission, the Chick-fil-A Bowl has established that a portion of the proceeds from the hospitality area will benefit the East Lake Foundation.
The FedExCup Playoffs consist of four events, beginning with the top 125 players in the FedExCup standings at The Barclays on August 20-25 and culminating with the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola in Atlanta, where the 2013 FedExCup champion will be determined. After The Barclays, the number of players is cut to 100, then to 70 after the second event, the Deutsche Bank Championship, and finally to 30 players following the BMW Championship to set the field for the finale of the FedExCup, the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola.
A number of the current top 30 in the standings graduated from schools with a strong tradition in college football.
